National Engineer’s Day 2022: Today is the birthday of Sir M Visvesvaraya; Let’s congratulate the engineers who built the country

To commemorate Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya’s significant contributions to the country, 15th September, his birthday, is celebrated as ‘Engineers Day’ every year. Born on 15th September 1861, Visvesvaraya was India’s first civil engineer. Karnataka is still benefiting from his many contributions as Diwan of Mysore State. Visvesvaraya, who carried on with a full existence of 101 years, passed on fourteenth April 1962. Since September 15, 1968, Designers Day has been praised in India consistently to pay tribute to Visvesvaraya. Born on 15th September 1861 in Muddenahalli at the foot of Nandi Betta on the Chikkaballapur-Doddaballapur road, Visvesvaraya faced severe poverty in his childhood. He studied from Chhala and graduated from Engineering College, Pune. Irrigation and flood control projects were his areas of interest.
The Krishnarajasagar dam built in Mandya district is the brainchild of Visvesvaraya. The programmed boundary water conduits introduced in the KhadakVasla Repository close to Pune in 1903 say a lot for Visvesvaraya’s creative mind and thinking power. Visvesvaraya functioned as the main impetus behind the foundation of the Designing School in 1917. In later days it came to be known as ‘College Visvesvaraya School of Designing’.
The British government honoured Visvesvaraya with the title of ‘Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire’ in recognition of his services. Visvesvaraya was honoured with Bharat Ratna by the Government of independent India in 1955.

In 1968 Dr. After Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s birthday was declared as Engineer’s Day by the Government of India, Engineer’s Day is celebrated on 15th September every year since then. Visvesvaraya was born on 15 September 1860 in Kolar district of Mysore, Karnataka district.
